Aretha was one of the original four young doelings to come to OakHaven Farm Goat Sanctuary in 2005 before it was actually a sanctuary. She was shy and, until late in her life, not keen on being handled. But she mellowed in her old age and would gladly accept a face scratch in exchange for a few pieces of banana. Aretha lost a baby in 2012. The baby was stillborn following an emergency c-section operation. Aretha mourned her baby for weeks.
Aretha passed in the Summer of 2021 at the ripe old age of 16 years. A necropsy revealed that she had been living with cancer for some time. She showed no signs until the very end. Aretha was strength.
