Mattie Sunshine Valentine

R.L. Burnside song "Poor Black Mattie"

January 2015

Mattie, and her twin brother, Son House, were born on a local dairy farm in the middle of an extremely cold winter. Their mother died and they came to live with us as bottle babies. They both lived in our house, mostly lying next to the space heater, for several months until the weather warmed. Mattie and her brother are inseparable and sleep side by side every night. Mattie has beautiful "moon spots", light spots in her coat that make her resemble a baby deer.
